I recently picked up Settlers of Catan - The Dice Game on the cheap from my local game store. The guy behind the counter said it was pretty fun to play with so I went with it.
Basically, you have six dice with six different resources. Your object is to move around a set map of your territory by building roads, cities, towns and knights via different combinations of dice. There is an additional version you can play competitively which is more Catan-like.
The strategy is not too terribly deep and I find that after I played it a few times, you know which items to build first and then it's a lucky die roll to get a large city (30 points) to elevate your scores.
From a family standpoint, however, it is an extremely light game. Again, my 6-year-old loves it and the wife picked it up pretty quick and played it a couple times. The last week or so it has fallen off the charts a little bit. Personally, I'd rather play some other games, but its good for a quick 15 minutes to kill virtually anywhere.
